Olds Koinonia student wins national safety video competition

Grade 12 Olds Koinonia Christian School student Micah Griffin has placed first in a national video competition, weeks after learning he had won at the provincial level.
SafeGen, which is a part of CAREERS the Next Generation, ran the competition. To compete, students had to submit a safety video they created themselves. Griffin entered at the encouragement of one of his teachers. Because he won at the provincial level, he was automatically entered at the national level.
Griffin says, “I was proud that I made something that ended up being recognized as first in Canada and was pretty thrilled to get that extra cash. I’m gonna buy another camera since I’ve been using the same one for 3 or 4 years so it will be good to get an upgrade.”
“Thanks to Mrs. McCracken for introducing me to the contest and my friend Rylan for his willingness to be my main actor,” says Griffin.
Because he won the national competition, Griffin will receive a $2,500 award on top of the $2,500 he received for winning the provincial contest. Also, his school will receive $2,000 in addition to the $1,000 they received after the provincial competition.
"We were all so excited for Micah,” says Cherie Sanche, Principal of OKCS. “This is a significant achievement and it will be encouraging to him as he continues to develop his tremendous talent. We are glad we've been able to get to know Micah in our school community, and we are cheering for him as he moves into his future!"
