Chinook’s Edge sends off retiring Superintendent Kurt Sacher with sincere thanks and appreciation for his legacy

Chinook’s Edge School Division has said a fond farewell to Kurt Sacher, who retired at the end of May, after 15 years of service as the division’s Superintendent.

At a special gathering on May 21, school and division based administrators, school board trustees, and division office staff gathered to share memories and express gratitude for Sacher’s contributions.

Shawn Russell, Associate Superintendent, says, “The celebration of Kurt highlighted the many ways that he has had a lasting impact on the Division. I was honoured to be part of celebrating both Kurt's career and Kurt as a person.”

Jason Drent, Associate Superintendent, says, “At Kurt’s retirement celebration, my comments focused on Kurt’s way of empowering people. Kurt has an unbelievable gift and skill to encourage the best in everyone. He has empowered me as a leader, and he does that with everyone in our organization. I am grateful for his example and legacy of leadership.”

Karyn Barber, Associate Superintendent says she also appreciates Sacher’s legacy. She says, “Kurt fostered a positive culture throughout the division, ensuring that energies are focused on success for all students. Being a part of Chinook's Edge School Division means that you are a valued staff member, appreciated for the efforts made to serve students and their families.”

Marcie Perdue, Associate Superintendent, says, “Kurt has always been a huge mentor to me. It has been an honour to work alongside him and he has supported my growth as a leader. He will be deeply missed.”

Mike Garrow, Associate Superintendent, says, “I admire Kurt because he has taught me to always take care of the people. Help them, treat everyone with respect, and do your best to always do the right thing. Every interaction, every conversation, and every time you meet with someone creates an impression. Kurt has done this his entire career and he is the reason our school division is so incredibly amazing.”

Sacher says he appreciated the celebration. “I was touched and deeply honoured that people took the time to celebrate with me in the way they did. Thank you to everyone who has shared their appreciation and best wishes with me,” says Sacher.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed looking back at all we have accomplished together through both the amazing times and the difficult times. It has always been a privilege to be the Superintendent in Chinook’s Edge over the last 15 years. I will forever be honoured to have my name connected to the incredible people who work in such a caring school division where relationships matter at every level,” he says.
