Chinook’s Edge Board considers supports for students with complex needs
The Board received a report from Marcie Perdue, Associate Superintendent of Student Services, on social emotional wellness, at its meeting on September 23. Perdue spoke to data collected about how schools are supporting students with complex needs. The Board heard that the addition of a Student Support Lead in each school, along with other supports employed by staff, is having a positive impact in schools
Board is pleased to learn of successful student learning in the summer
The Board enjoyed an update about summer learning opportunities in Chinook’s Edge.
- Summer School - 161 students successfully completed courses in the communities of Sylvan Lake, Innisfail and Olds.
- Jumpstart - a program that offers an understanding of the Google environment - saw 168 students earn a Chromebook by earning six credits in the course. The total number of credits earned in Jumpstart in 2025 was 1,273 compared to 1,079 last year and 822 the year before.
- Work Experience - 307 students participated in 2025, up from 236 last year and 209 students the year before. Chinook’s Edge anticipates that students earned about 2200 credits towards their high school diplomas.
Board updates policy on Board Chair
The Board voted in favour of an amendment to its policy on the role of the Board Chair - PL 02.1.0. The change allows the Board Chair to delegate some of their duties, and defines the context for delegation.

Trustees were pleased to meet staff members who are new, and serving at the division level.
